Lafon-Rochet is both simple and complex, with black fruit aromas in most vintages. It exemplifies a smoothness and expression unique to Saint Estephe, as well as a certain warmth and elegant roundness due to the Merlot grape. Just as Grandma's old apple tree at the bottom of the garden has tastier apples, grapes form old vines produce wine with more flavor and concentration. And, although they produce less, their fruit reflects the terroir more faithfully.
This is a direct import for us that has been aged at the chateau in perfect conditions. It was release to us from the chateau in late June of this year.

Good red-ruby. Very ripe aromas of musky currant , black raspberry, camphor and tobacco leaf. Round and plump for St. Estephe, with noteworthy volume and seamless texture; sweeter by far than the chateau's 2007 or 2006 samples but possesses harmonious framing acidity. Finishes with broad tannins that arrive late. A big success.

While there are superripe fruit aromas, the structure of this wine is totally solid. Somewhere lurking under the shell is huge black fruit, but now it is dark and very dry.

Has notes of blackberry, with Indian spices and green tea. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins, a silky texture and a medium finish. Balanced and very refined. A beautiful young wine. Best after 2011.
