A highly-regarded Cru Beaujolais known for its power and depth, hailing from 70-year-old vines grown on the "blue" volcanic schist soils of Mont Brouilly.
Aromas: A dense, expressive bouquet of black plum, cassis, crushed violets, and cracked black pepper, with subtle hints of woodsmoke and fresh thyme.
Palate: Medium-to-full-bodied with succulent, "fleshy" tannins and a core of deep dark fruit. It typically carries a higher alcohol level this vintage (around 14.5%), yet maintains freshness and a long, mineral-driven finish.
Vine Age: Sourced from vines over 70 years old.
Technique: Uses whole-cluster fermentation with native yeasts and aging in large, neutral oak foudres.
Terroir: The "Cuvée Mélanie" (named after his daughter) is uniquely influenced by the blue diorite (volcanic schist) of the region, which imparts a distinct mineral "crunch" and savory complexity.
Roasted Duck with Green Olives
A classic pairing for this specific cuvée. The acidity cuts through the fat of the duck, while the green olives mirror the wine's savory, herbaceous notes.
Pork Roast or Grilled Sausages
The bright red fruit (cherry and raspberry) in the wine complements the sweetness of pork.
Prime Rib or Hanger Steak
Because this vintage has firmer tannins, it can handle beef, especially when served with a peppercorn or shallot sauce.
French "Bistro" Favorites
Salad Lyonnaise
The wine’s high acidity is perfect for balancing the rich bacon lardons and runny poached egg in this traditional regional salad.
Charcuterie & Pâté
A standard for any Beaujolais, but the Cuvée Mélanie’s smokiness particularly suits salt-cured meats and rustic terrines.
Vegetarian & CheeseMushroom Risotto or Ratatouille
The earthy undertones of the volcanic soil (blue diorite) make it an ideal match for forest-floor flavors like mushrooms and roasted vegetables.
Cheese: Look for soft but flavorful French cheeses like Camembert, Brie, or even a mild Saint-Nectaire. The wine has enough fruit to bridge the gap without being overpowered by the creaminess.
