A highly acclaimed, 100% Nebbiolo (locally known as Spanna) from northern Piedmont. Under the direction of Roberto Conterno, this vintage is noted for its exceptional finesse and a "northern key" expression of Nebbiolo.
Nose: Lifted floral notes of crushed rose petals and violets, combined with sour cherry, wild strawberry, blood orange, and graphite.
Palate: Taut and fine-textured with a "mineral spine." Expect vibrant acidity and a savory, slightly saline finish with pomegranate and iron nuances.
Style: Compared to the Molsino cru, Valferana is typically more "lifted" and "ethereal," focusing on fragrance and elegance rather than raw power.
Vineyard (Cru): Vigna Valferana, known for its high elevation and volcanic porphyry soil, dating back to records from 1231.
