A highly regarded Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend from the Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert appellation in Languedoc, France. Often called the "First Growth of the Languedoc," this vintage is noted for its elegance, freshness, and significant aging potential.
Aroma: Heady and spicy with notes of dark berries, cassis, pencil shavings, leather, tobacco, and "garrigue" (wild herbs like sage and bay leaves).
Palate: Medium-bodied and structured with firm but fine tannins and crisp acidity. Flavors include dark plum, boysenberry, licorice, and savory wood spice.
Composition: A complex blend dominated by 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, supplemented by Pinot Noir (5%), Merlot (2%), Petit Verdot (2%), Cabernet Franc (2%), Tannat (2%), and approximately 15 other rare varieties.
Production: The wine underwent traditional vinification with a three-week maceration and was aged for 12 to 15 months in one- to seven-year-old oak barrels.
Current Status: Entering a period of maturity (typically 7–14 years after vintage) where tannins begin to velvety and primary fruit starts to fade into complex tertiary notes.
