A red blend from the Mêda sub-region of the Douro Superior in Portugal. This wine is part of a project by brothers Vasco and Rui Martins, who represent the fourth generation of their family managing the Quinta Vale do Olmo estate.
Profile: It is often described as having a deep violet color with an elegant nose of raspberry, spices, and hints of dark chocolate.
Grapes: A traditional Douro blend typically featuring Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, and Touriga Franca.
Structure: Known for smooth tannins and balanced acidity, partly due to the high-altitude vineyards (around 550 meters) in schistous soils, which provide a distinct minerality.
Production: Grapes are hand-harvested from vines over 25 years old. A portion of the wine typically undergoes aging in French oak barrels for 18 months.
