A white wine from the Douro Superior sub-region of Portugal. Produced by the Carvalho Martins family at their Quinta Vale do Olmo estate in Mêda, this wine is part of their "Golpe" line, which translates to "coup" or "blow"—referencing the brothers' decision to start their own winemaking project.
Nose: Intense aromas of ripe fruit and grapefruit, underscored by a strong mineral core.
Palate: Known for being fresh and characterful, often showing a balance between fruit intensity and crisp acidity.
Grapes: Typically a traditional Douro blend including Gouveio, Rabigato, and Viosinho.
Winemaking: Grapes are hand-harvested from vines over 25 years old and fermented in stainless steel tanks to preserve the primary fruit and terroir expression.
Food Pairings: Portuguese Cuisine
Bacalhau (Salt Cod)The wine’s high acidity cuts through the saltiness of dishes like
Bacalhau à Brás (shredded cod with eggs and potatoes) or simple roasted cod
with olive oil and garlic.
Grilled White Fish: Its freshness complements
Sea Bass (Robalo) or Sea Bream (Dourada), especially when simply grilled with a squeeze of lemon.
Shellfish
The mineral, saline notes make it a natural match for
clams in garlic and cilantro (Amêijoas à Bulhão Pato), mussels, or oysters.
Asian Spices: It holds up well against the heat and aromatics of Thai or Indian fish curries (avoiding heavy cream bases).
Mediterranean Tapas: Pairs excellently with Fritto Misto (fried seafood) or
Ceviche, where the wine acts like a "liquid lemon".
