A highly regarded, traditionalist red wine from the Piedmont region of Italy. Unlike many Barberas aged in stainless steel for early consumption, Cappellano treats this wine similarly to his Barolo, utilizing lengthy maceration and multi-year aging in large neutral oak casks to create a wine of significant depth and complexity.
Profile: Described as having a "Barolo backbone" with "Pinot Noir finesse". It is more elegant than the "big" styles of previous years.
Flavor Notes: Striking purity of fruit including kirsch, ripe raspberry, and black cherry, accented by sweet spice, mint, and smoky grilled herbs.
Drinking Window: While enjoyable now with proper aeration, it is projected to age well through 2032.
Source: 100% Barbera grapes from the Gabutti cru in Serralunga d'Alba, known for old vines and Serravalian soils that provide high mineral intensity.
Method: Organic farming practices (no synthetic pesticides) and spontaneous fermentation in large used casks.
