A light, expressive, biodynamic red blend from the Maremma region of Tuscany, Italy. Known for its approachable style and signature 1-liter "stumpy" bottle, it is designed as a "quaffer" meant for immediate consumption with food and friends.
Tasting Notes: Features intense aromas of red cherries, raspberries, and blueberries with floral hints of violet and spicy notes like licorice, pepper, and cardamom.
Palate: Light-bodied and fresh with high acidity, "crunchy" or soft tannins, and a clean, elegant finish.
Composition: A Mediterranean blend typically consisting of Alicante Nero (40%), Mourvèdre (25%), Carignano (15%), Sangiovese (15%), and Alicante Bouschet (5%)
Producer: Ampeleia was co-founded in 2002 by Elisabetta Foradori, Thomas Widmann, and Giovanni Podini.
Farming: Certified organic and biodynamic; fruit is sourced from younger vineyards at lower altitudes (200–350m) closer to the sea.
Vinification: Natural wine approach with no additives. Grapes are fermented separately; about 10% undergoes carbonic maceration to enhance fruitiness, while the rest is whole-cluster or crushed.
Aging: Aged for 6 months in concrete tanks to preserve freshness and fruit character.
