Nikka Coffey Grain is a unique Japanese single grain whisky renowned for its sweet, bourbon-like profile and exceptionally smooth texture. It is produced by Nikka Whisky, primarily at their Miyagikyo Distillery, using traditional "Coffey" column stills imported from Scotland in the 1960s.
Nose: Indulgent notes of vanilla, caramel popcorn, tropical fruits like banana and papaya, and a hint of honey.
Palate: Luxuriously silky and sweet, featuring flavors of butterscotch, vanilla wafer, and ripe fruit, with subtle spices like cinnamon and clove.
Finish: Short to medium-long, with lingering notes of honeyed citrus, oak, and a faint peppery spice.
Production Method: Unlike most modern grain whiskies designed for high efficiency, Nikka uses vintage Coffey stills. These stills operate continuously but are less efficient than modern columns, allowing the distillate to retain more of the grain's natural character and a creamy mouthfeel.
Mash Bill: It is distilled predominantly from corn (estimated at 95%) with a small amount of malted barley (roughly 5%).
