A pioneering, unpeated Single Grain Scotch Whisky from Bruichladdich Distillery that marks the first commercially available rye whisky distilled, matured, and bottled entirely on the Isle of Islay.
Nose: Fresh cracked black pepper and sharp ginger, balanced by ocean brine, vanilla custard, sweet coconut, and green orchard fruits.
Palate: A medium-bodied, complex entry where aggressive white-pepper rye heat meets the creamy, round texture of malted barley, light oak tannins, and baking spices.
Finish: Clean and lingering with lingering pepper notes, toasted oak, and a distinctive maritime saline whisper
Classification: Single Grain Scotch Whisky (due to the inclusion of unmalted rye).
Mash Bill: 55% Islay-grown rye (harvested from Coull Farm) and 45% Islay malted barley.
Age: 7 Years Old (distilled from the 2017 harvest).
Strength: 50% ABV (100 Proof).
Maturation: A combination of first-fill bourbon barrels and toasted, uncharred Virgin American Oak casks (including a unique Spanish "Crianza" toasting technique).
Production Style: Un-chill filtered, natural color, and non-peated.
The expression was created as an intentional agricultural statement by Bruichladdich Distillery to support regenerative farming practices on Islay. Rye naturally enriches the local soil and reduces the need for artificial, chemical inputs. Because future batches may alter age statements or cask varieties based on crop experimentation, this initial 7-year variant is considered a highly collectible snapshot of the project.
