A premium, 100% barley honkaku (authentic) shochu produced by the Tensei Distillery in Kagoshima, Japan, and imported by Honkaku Spirits. It is highly regarded for its deep, roasted flavor profile that sets it apart from more neutral barley shochus.
Flavor Profile: It features rich, toasty notes of roasted ground coffee, dark chocolate, and buttered toast, with a nutty and slightly sweet finish.
Production: It is made from heirloom 2-row Schooner barley. The mash includes 8% roasted barley, which provides its signature "Hokka" (toasted) aroma.
Water Source: The distillery uses the exceptionally soft Fugendo spring water from Kagoshima, contributing to a round and smooth mouthfeel.
Aging: The raw distillate is aged for a minimum of 5 years in enamel tanks before bottling, allowing the flavors to mature and mellow.
Serving Suggestions
Oyuwari (Hot Water): Mixing it with hot water is highly recommended to awaken the roasted aromas and soften the texture.
On the Rocks: This method highlights its buttery and nutty complexity.
