The Clement have been wine-growers in Menetou-Salon, a quaint country village about 20 minutes southwest of Sancerre, since 1560 (16 generations). Isabelle and Pierre Clément, now joined by their daughter Anne, own 70 hectares of the finest, southwest exposed hillside vineyards in the appellation
While Menetou-Salon is on the same side of the Loire River as its more famous neighbor Sancerre, it has the same fossil-rich Kimmeridgian limestone-clay soils that are prevalent in Chablis. These Kimmeridgian soils impart the distinctly complex, aromatic and elegant personality to Clément’s wines.
Floral nose with white flowers and citrus fruit. On the palette the wine showcases hints of pear and peaches as well as green apple tartnes in the background. Pleasantly bone dry finish that reminds us of Chablis like minerality with the citrus elements coming back into play.

The 2022 Classique white has an intriguing floral talc nose that is oh-so reminiscent (to me, at least) of a wild fermentation. Indeed, indigenous yeasts are allowed to rule the roost, resulting in a dry, pure, clean style with character and freshness. There's attractive sinew in this wine, grip and length despite being a drink-now, vivid style that leaves you smacking your lips.
