Macari Estate Chardonnay 2015
|Appellation||North Fork of Long Island|
Wine AdvocateThe 2015 Chardonnay Estate is unoaked and comes in at 13.5% alcohol. Sourced from vines averaging 21-22 years in age, this had no malolactic fermentation. Fresh and lively, this makes its mark with its purity and sunny demeanor rather than concentration or power. The juicy, clean finish makes this bright white a pleasure to drink. It should be a refreshing porch-sipper this summer. If you're comparing to the Dos Aguas white, the producer's other fresh white this issue, that is a bit fruitier and has more personality, while this is a bit steelier. I liked them both a lot in their very different styles. The price points are good, too. Drink this young for best results. It won't reward extended aging. This is set for release in June. Grab it then and dive in, because it is perfect for warm weather. It's worth commending Macari for its effort to release wines only when they've settled down, but this could've been released a bit earlier without a problem..
Wine SpectatorRipe and focused, with a tasty core of pear and green apple fruit, backed by judicious toast on the engaging finish. Well done. Drink now. 835 cases made.
