The 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva is a potent, brooding wine. Blue/purplish fruit, lavender, licorice and dried herbs infuse the 2016 with notable depth. The 2016 spent 18 months in French oak and 6 months in cement, plus extended time in bottle prior to release. I find the density and complexity here remarkable, although a less forceful use of oak might help the Sangiovese be more expressive.
