Domaine du Gour de Chaule Gigondas Cuvée Tradition 2016
|Region||France, Rhone, Gigondas|
|Brand||Domaine du Gour de Chaule|
Vivid ruby. An exotically perfumed bouquet evokes ripe red and pit fruits, potpourri and garrigue, and an exotic spice note emerges in the glass. Stains the palate with sweet raspberry, cherry and lavender pastille flavors that steadily put on weight with air. Conveys a suave blend of power and finesse and finishes extremely long and floral, with fine-grained tannins lending discreet grip.
I tasted a single cuvée from Domaine du Gour de Chaulé and the 2016 Gigondas Tradition is made from 80% Grenache and 10% each of Syrah and Mourvèdre. This cuvée comes all from limestone terroirs, isn't destemmed and will see two years in mostly concrete tanks. It's a classic, old-school effort that offers lots of leafy herbs, dark fruits, pepper and damp earth in a medium to full-bodied, concentrated, fresh, tannic style. It's as traditional as it gets and will need 2-3 years of bottle age.
